Here are some guidelines for OST projects:

Youth should participate in projects for 3 to 4 hours a week.

The goal is for sites to continually work on PBL throughout the year.  Once your program completes one project, we expect to see you begin your next project within two weeks.  You may use the following as a guideline:

  • Elementary:  Projects may last 3-5 weeks, 5-8 projects per year
  • Middle:  Projects may last 4-6 weeks, 4-6 projects per year
  • High:  Projects may last 4-10 weeks, 3-5 projects per year

In general, projects for younger youth are shorter in duration than those for older youth.  Younger students generally have shorter attention spans and need to see the final result or payoff more quickly if they are to remain engaged.
