Congratulations to the many providers who had success this summer with Project Based Learning!
One provider with an engaging summer project was Centro Nueva Creacion where youth explored Caribbean and Taino roots through art, writing, dance and music. To make this project as successful as possible, the program utilized several community partners. This summer youth have toured and photographed the local neighborhood with college photography students. They also helped create three large air-brushed panels that represent Taino cultural figures. In music, youth received drumming instruction using traditional drums and rhythms of the Caribbean, and one of the Group Leaders lead the youth in traditional Bomba and Afro-Caribbean dancing lessons. The project culminated in a true community celebration at the Crane Arts Building where youth showcased their art and photography, drumming, and dance.
