On October 20th, from 4:30pm-5:30pm, the City of Philadelphia will host a celebration of Out-of-School Time (OST) programs. The event, held in conjunction with events around the country in honor of Lights On Afterschool, will feature youth performances and inspirational speakers. The event will be held on Thomas Paine Plaza, outside of the Municipal Services Building and across from Philadelphia City Hall. In honor of Lights On Afterschool, Philadelphia’s famous LOVE Park fountain will be colored dark blue and Boathouse Row, a historic national landmark, will be trimmed blue. In the days leading up to the event, the message “National Lights On for Afterschool Programs – 10/20 www.afterschoolalliance.org will be displayed across the Philadelphia skyline on a prominent landmark, the PECO Crown Lights. Philadelphia OST providers and community leaders interested in attending can find more information on by following us on Facebook at Philadelphia Out-of-School Time Programs.

  1. I can’t attend because–I’ll be helping lead the after school program at Ogontz Library! It certainly is important to do this kind of work, and every child should have the chance to be involved after school in fun and interesting and safe programs.
