Are you looking to incorporate more literacy into your k-5 projects? Check out the My Fairy Tale project, which has students explore the elements of a fairy tale and the influence of culture on fairy tales. Through the project students create original fairy tales with themselves as the protagonist.
Note: at first glance the project appears highly detailed, but it includes opportunities for youth voice, including the choice of which stories to read and options for how students present their fairy tales: puppet shows, comic strips, pop-books, and more.
Thanks to Keo Chea and Bill Richards of the Philadelphia Out-of-School Time Literacy Initiative and Isamar Ramirez of the Free Library of Philadelphia for their work on this project.
