The OST program at the Boys and Girls Club of Philadelphia, Germantown location, reported their recent success with a project exploring Japanese food and culture. See what they had to say below:

In an effort to improve cultural awareness and celebrate diversity, Germantown Boys and Girls Club of Philadelphia youth GermantownBGCProjectparticipated in their own “Bizarre Foods” experience on January 30th, 2014 . Students learned about Japanese culture and food, as well as made and taste-tested sushi. Group leaders discussed the health benefits of fresh foods, and the cost effectiveness of making favorite foods at home.

For many of the youth, this was their first time tasting something that originated from a different country. The youth enjoyed the sushi so much, they asked to make additional samples for their families to taste.

Throughout February, Germantown OST will conduct an Experiential Learning project which will take youth on an adventure of tastes and cultures from around the world.
